The Magic of Yoga
Many people think of yoga as a physical practice for stretching and stress reduction and while this is one aspect of yoga it is a small part and relatively recent in development.
I love to integrate cosmic activity, energy medicine and esoteric wisdom into yoga classes to help yogis feel more connected to the world around.
When we experience the influence of the seasons moving through our being and align our yoga practice to flow with the movement of the stars and the planets, we connect to something greater than ourselves, yet to which we also belong.
We find our place in the universe, peace on our hearts and balance between our inner and outer worlds.
What is Yoga?
Yoga began in ancient India over 5000 years ago. The physical practice of yoga was primarily designed to facilitate the real practice of yoga, the understanding and complete mastery over the mind. As important today in the west as in India all those years ago.
The actual meaning of yoga is the science of the mind.
Yoga classes may include one or all of the following:
- Physical practice consisting of poses (asanas) and/or sequences (which may be practiced standing and seated combining balances, twists, forward folds and backbends)
- Breathing techniques (pranayama)
- Focussed gazing (drishti)
- Chanting
- Hand gestures (mudras)
- Meditation
- Philosophy
- Relaxation (savasanna)
